Fumin

LES CRÊTES – Fumin

Intense and austere, this red wine is the deepest gift that our territory is capable fo giving us. Its name is delivered by the smokey bloom that covers the surface of its skin. In the past it was exclusively used in blends to give colour and strength, it risked extinsion in the ’70s, saved by the brave vignerons of the valley. Vinified for the first time as a varietal wine, by Les Crêtes. It is a wine of great elegance, capable fo ageing in the bottle.

VINTAGE 2019

Wine Spectator – 94+
The 2019 Valle d’Aosta Chardonnay Cuvée Bois opens to a golden shine and lots of intersecting aromas that come from both the fruit and oak to magnificent effect. The wood notes are very fresh, almost mild, recalling the pretty wood paneling of a Swedish sauna. There is vanilla cream that dovetails into fragrant Pink Lady apple or Turkish Delight (or nougat dessert) with powdered sugar on top. The mouthfeel is rich and thickly layered, again, to very elegant effect. Production is 18,000 bottles.

VINTAGE 2019

Wine Advocate – 92
The Les Crêtes 2019 Valle d’Aosta Petite Arvine Vigna Devin Ros Fleur shows hints of petroleum jelly, flinty stone or slate, some autumn leaf or maybe dried oregano, but the wine shows less fruit overall. You get mild apple and lemon, and it is ultimately much more expressive on the palate with cantaloupe melon, dragon fruit and a dusting of white pepper. The wine plays its best cards on the palate, and this vintage offers more acidic freshness and balance than we see in the vintages to follow. This is a very pretty wine that is drinking beautifully right now (despite a 15% alcohol content), especially at this price point. Some 6,000 bottles were made.
